Google has finally announced the NFC payment service, the Google Wallet.

The Google Wallet will be fully compatible with the PayPass Mastercard feature from MasterCard. The service is now is limited and will be running in New York and San Francisco. It's just something like Touch'n Go & Visa Wave in Malaysia.

Initially the Sprint Nexus S 4G will be the only compatible smartphone, but Google has suggested that phones without built-in NFC could use an NFC sticker. So the non-NFC phone may as well enjoy the service.

Currently the Google Wallet can only use a Citi MasterCard or Google Prepaid Card with the service.

With Google Wallet, NFC would increase its popularity as more and more smartphone has built-in NFC just like the Nokia Symbian Belle trio & the Nokia N9.
